Dust Jacket Cover Calculations

Dust Jacket Bleeds & Canvas

Please do not include printer marks (color bars, registration marks, crop marks, document info or bleed marks) or extra canvas around the cover.

Any content beyond the outer guidelines (0.25”) will be trimmed off the final jacket. Be sure to keep all active content out of this area. All images or color intended to fully bleed off the edge must extend past the 0.25” guides. Bleeds are included in the overall dimensions.

Dust Jacket Tips

Dust jackets are trimmed and applied by hand to each individual book.

Please ensure the dust jacket flaps are proportionate to your book. For example, 2” flaps on a large, thick book will likely slip off the book when it is opened flat. Typical flaps are approximately 3”+ wide.

Dust Jacket Spine Calculation

Casebound spine width is calculated by taking the book’s page count and dividing by the paper stock ppi (pages per inch). Please discuss available paper types with your BNB Customer Service Person. Next, round raw bulk up to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. Refer to the following table to determine spine width for a dust jacket.

  • Casebound Spine Width: 0.25"

  • Casebound Spine Width: 0.3125"

  • Casebound Spine Width: Bulk + 0.125"
