Casebound Cover Calculations

Casebound Cover Bleeds & Canvas

To make a casebound cover, BNB requires 0.75” of bleed area on all sides of the cover to wrap around the cover boards. The content in this area will not be visible on the finished book. Be sure to keep all active content out of this wrapped area. All images or color intended to fully bleed off the cover edge must extend past the 0.75” guides.

Please do not include printer marks (color bars, registration marks, crop marks, document info or bleed marks) or extra canvas around the cover.

Casebound Tips

BNB casebound covers have a fixed hinge width of about 0.375” on either side of the spine. Please keep text or other important information outside of the hinge area. The finished casebound book is approximately 0.25” larger than the final trim size. A 6x9 book will yield a 6.25 x 9.25 case.

Casebound Spine Calculation

Casebound spine width is calculated by taking the book’s page count and dividing by the paper stock ppi (pages per inch). Please discuss available paper types with your BNB Customer Service Person. Next, round raw bulk up to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. Refer to the following table to determine spine width for a casebound cover.

  • Casebound Spine Width: 0.25"

  • Casebound Spine Width: 0.3125"

  • Casebound Spine Width: Bulk + 0.125"
